Presenting Bernard Sparr

Alsace Region in France

The name Sparr has been prominent among Alsace wine growers for 9 generation, defining the region's classic, dry agreable style.  Alsace lies at the heart of Western Europe in the Northeast corner of France on the German border. It is an extremely beautiful rolling land bounded by forests from out of a fairy tale. As with every region in France, it has a character all of its own, which is well represented by its unique cuisine and superlative wines.

 Bernard Sparr will be featuring

Marquis De Perlade  Non Vintage - Ideal for apéritif or as a cocktail wine. To be served with hors d'oeuvres and cold dishes as well as seafood and white meats. Varietals: Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc
First fermentation under temperature control in stainless steel tanks. Blended after six months to reach its particular flavor and distinguishing taste.  Later, it is bottled and a small amount of sugar and yeast is added to the wine to start the second fermentation.
The bottles are then stored on their side and kept at 55 º F, allowing time for the yeast to react with the sugar, which causes the second fermentation. This natural phenomenon produces the fine bubbles and a light, persistent mousse (froth), characteristic of sparkling wine. The bottles remain in the cellars for several months (at least 9 months) after the second fermentation to age “on the yeast” until the wines reach an incomparable delicacy and complexity.

Pierre Sparr Reserve Riesling 2004 - Lively and intense, while still delicate, building subtly to a glissando of apple, stone and floral notes. Crisp, tasty, ripe flavors, well bodied with a clean, elegant and dry finish. Can age well for another 5 – 6 years. GRAPE VARIETIES: 100% Riesling  Traditional vinification: alcoholic fermentation under temperature control.

Pierre Sparr Reserve Pinot Blanc 2004 - A fruity, dry, crisp, supple wine with a pleasant acidity. Thirst-quenching wine. Very attractive by its superb quality / price ratio. To enjoy with salads, charcuterie, shellfish, fishes, and any type of light meals. Great summer wine! Big by the glass wine in the On-Premises.  Grape Varieties: 50% Pinot Blanc – 50% Pinot Auxerrois.  Traditional vinification: alcoholic fermentation under temperature control: 18 °C .  Stainless steel tanks, to keep up the natural fruits and fresh acidity.

Pierre Sparr Reserve Gewurztraminer 2003 - Big, bold and flavorful, with honey, floral (rose petals) and litchi galore and a fat texture, all reigned in by a grapefruit peel note on the finish. Can age well another 5 – 6 years. Enjoy it with Asian and spicy dishes, foie gras, strong cheeses and deserts.  GRAPE VARIETIES: 100% Gewurztraminer.  Traditional vinification: alcoholic fermentation under temperature control.

Alsace One 2004 - A synthesis of delicate floral aromas and bright fruit flavors. Crisp and dry, with good body, intensity and depth. Alsace One stylishly captures the character of Alsace's premium grape varieties in a modern framework.  Great as an aperitif or with seafood, pasta or poultry.   GRAPE VARIETIES: The five classic grapes of Alsace: Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Muscat, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris.   No malolactic fermentation; 12.45% alc.; 0.71% residual sugar; 3.30 PH MATURATION-AGING: 100% stainless steel for a fresh, modern flavor profile.
